Description

As a Locum Band 7 Oncology Pharmacist, you will be responsible for providing expert pharmaceutical care to oncology patients. Your role will involve working closely with the oncology team to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based use of chemotherapy and supportive medications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to oncology and haematology patients, including prescription screening and verification of chemotherapy regimens.
  • Conduct medication reviews and provide expert advice on the safe and effective use of oncology medications.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient treatment plans.
  • Monitor patients for drug interactions, side effects, and efficacy, adjusting treatments as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on medication management, including the handling and administration of chemotherapy.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines in oncology pharmacy practice.
  • Participate in clinical audits, research, and service improvement initiatives within the oncology department.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MPharm degree or equivalent and current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Proven experience working at Band 7 level or equivalent, preferably within oncology or haematology settings.
  • Extensive knowledge of chemotherapy, oncology medications, and relevant safety protocols.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex cases.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with electronic prescribing systems and familiarity with NHS frameworks and guidelines related to oncology.
