Description
As a Locum Band 7 Oncology Pharmacist, you will be responsible for providing expert pharmaceutical care to oncology patients. Your role will involve working closely with the oncology team to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based use of chemotherapy and supportive medications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical pharmacy services to oncology and haematology patients, including prescription screening and verification of chemotherapy regimens.
- Conduct medication reviews and provide expert advice on the safe and effective use of oncology medications.
- Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient treatment plans.
- Monitor patients for drug interactions, side effects, and efficacy, adjusting treatments as necessary.
- Educate patients and their families on medication management, including the handling and administration of chemotherapy.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines in oncology pharmacy practice.
- Participate in clinical audits, research, and service improvement initiatives within the oncology department.
Qualifications and Experience:
- MPharm degree or equivalent and current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Proven experience working at Band 7 level or equivalent, preferably within oncology or haematology settings.
- Extensive knowledge of chemotherapy, oncology medications, and relevant safety protocols.
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex cases.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience with electronic prescribing systems and familiarity with NHS frameworks and guidelines related to oncology.
