HCPC Registration for UK and International Candidates

HCPC Registration for UK

The HCPC Register stores the details of all health and care professionals who meet standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health. After completing professional training, you'll need to apply to join it.

Your application route depends on whether you completed your training in the UK or internationally. If you have already been on the Register, regardless of where you trained, you'll apply via readmission.

International application tips

Read the standards of proficiency

Before you apply you must ensure that you read and understand the standards of proficiency for your chosen profession. It is extremely important that you do this, as your application will be assessed against these.

Include as much as possible

Include as much relevant information as possible in your application. If  require more information about your experience, education or training,  will request this in writing via a Record of Assessment, after which you will be able to find and send the requested information. This often causes the process to take significantly more time.

Detail all your experience

HCPC does not comment on the ability of an applicant to practice in their country of training, however, some courses are broader with less in depth coverage, and others are more detailed but have a narrower scope. Significant experience may make up for shortfalls in training. HCPC assessors make their determinations based on all of the information that you provide.

Declaration

If you’re applying for registration and you trained outside the UK, you’ll be asked to sign a declaration regarding background checks. In order to be sure you meet the standards for registration,  will need to be sure of your identity, your qualifications, and that you are of good character.

Documentation

Your application will include details of the documents we need for registration. They may also need to check that  are genuine with the organisations or individuals who provided them.

You’ll be asked to sign a declaration, which will give permission to:

  • Verify your identity documents
  • Confirm your qualifications
  • Confirm your good standing and character

They do recognise that regulation varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and that, for example, it may not be normal practice to issue certificates of current professional status or letters of good standing. However, they do ask that you send whatever information you are able to provide.

English Language Proficiency

They  ask all applicants applying through the international route to confirm their proficiency with the English language. The ability to communicate effectively in English is crucial to working as a health professional in the UK.

To demonstrate this, as part of your application you'll be asked to provide a certificate from an English language proficiency test that shows your score.

  • IELTS – Minimum score:  7.0 with no element below 6.5
  • TOEFL – Minimum score of 100/120
